more about me
Rainy days (or let’s be honest, long winters) happen a lot here.
And if you’ve got kids, staying home all day usually goes downhill fast.
As a photographer, I’m constantly helping families plan around weather, and these are the places that come up again and again when parents need a backup plan.
If your kids need to burn energy, go straight to Slick City.
For toddlers, Dreamland or We Rock the Spectrum are easier.
On a budget, Rustad or the Courts Plus are your best bet.
And if you want something more relaxed, Gathered FM is a play café, where parents can sit and relax or work while kids play.

Gathered FM is Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo & Horace’s only play café, designed so parents can relax or work while kids learn, create, and play. It’s a more calm, creative space compared to typical indoor playgrounds, with a focus on imagination, music, and hands-on play.
They also host birthday parties, which makes it a really easy, stress-free option, you can book the space, bring your own food, and let the kids play while everything is taken care of. It’s one of those spots that feels just as enjoyable for parents as it does for kids.

We Rock the Spectrum is an indoor sensory gym designed for kids of all abilities, with swings, trampolines, climbing equipment, and space to move freely. It’s a really inclusive environment, which is something parents mention a lot in reviews, and it works just as well for high-energy kids as it does for younger siblings.
They also offer birthday parties, which makes it a super easy option if you want something fun but still structured. You can book the space, let the kids play, and not worry about planning a bunch of activities, everything is already set up for them.

Dreamland Indoor Playground is a newer indoor play space that’s especially great for toddlers and younger kids. It’s set up with soft play equipment, climbing areas, and imaginative spaces that feel a bit more calm and structured compared to the bigger, high-energy play centres.
They also host birthday parties, which makes it a really easy option if you want something simple and age-appropriate. It’s a smaller space, so it tends to feel more manageable, especially if you’re dealing with younger kids or don’t want the chaos of a larger venue.

Slick City is one of the most popular indoor spots in Fargo right now, and for good reason. It’s basically a slide park with multiple levels, high-speed slides, climbing areas, and air courts, so kids are constantly moving the entire time. Parents consistently mention how clean and well-run it is, and how staff are actively watching the slides, which makes it feel a lot safer than you’d expect.
They also offer birthday parties, and this is one of those places where parties are pretty much guaranteed to be a hit. You book a time slot, the kids run non-stop, and you don’t need to overthink entertainment, it’s built into the space.

The Fargo Parks Sports Center is one of the newest indoor spots in Fargo, and it’s quickly become a go-to for families. It’s not just a playground, it’s a huge indoor facility with a multi-level play structure, turf fields, and open space for kids to run around.
The indoor playground is designed for a wide range of ages, with smaller areas for toddlers and bigger structures for older kids, so it works really well if you’ve got multiple kids.
They also offer birthday parties with private rooms, and the best part is kids get access to the playground the whole time, so you don’t need to plan activities, it’s all built in

Rustad Recreation Center is one of the best all-round indoor spots in the Fargo area, especially if you’ve got kids of different ages. It’s a large facility with an indoor playground, basketball courts, and a big turf field, so there’s a lot more to do than just one play structure.
Families love that there’s enough space for kids to spread out, and it’s one of those places where you can easily stay for a few hours without anyone getting bored. It’s also a popular option for birthday parties, with rooms available to book and plenty of built-in entertainment so you don’t need to organise much yourself.

Fargo Climbing is an indoor rock climbing gym that’s surprisingly great for both kids and parents. It features bouldering walls with routes for all skill levels, from complete beginners to more experienced climbers, so it’s something the whole family can enjoy together.
Parents consistently mention how supportive and welcoming the environment is, and how kids actually build confidence while they’re there, not just burn energy. It’s one of those activities where they’re learning something new while still having fun.
They also offer birthday parties and group bookings, which makes it a fun option if you want something a little different from a typical play centre. Kids get to climb, challenge themselves, and stay engaged the entire time.

Courts Plus is more of a full family fitness centre than a typical indoor playground, which is why a lot of parents like it. There’s a large multi-level play structure for kids, plus courts, pools, and other activities, so it works well if your kids get bored easily or want to switch things up.
It’s also a solid option for birthday parties, especially if you want something a bit more structured. You can book party packages, and kids get access to the play areas while you have a dedicated space for food and cake, which makes it feel a little more organised than a standard play centre.

NRG Adventure Park is an upcoming indoor adventure park in Fargo that’s set to be a major addition once it fully opens. It’s designed as a high-energy indoor space with climbing walls, ninja courses, foam pits, zip lines, and trampolines, so it’s much more than a standard playground.
It’s built for all ages, with everything from toddler zones to more advanced obstacle-style challenges, which makes it a really good option for families with older kids or kids who want something more exciting than a soft play centre.
They’ll also offer birthday parties, and this is one of those venues where you don’t need to plan much. Packages typically include jump time, a private party room, food, and staff to help run everything, which makes it a pretty easy, all-in-one setup.

West Acres Mall is one of the easiest rainy day options in Fargo, especially when you just need to get out of the house without overthinking it. It’s the largest mall in North Dakota with over 100 stores, a big food court, and plenty of space to walk around.
What makes it good for kids is the indoor play area near the food court. It’s designed for younger kids with soft structures and tunnels, so they can climb and move around safely while you sit nearby. There’s also the Roger Maris Museum inside the mall if you want a quick extra stop.
You can also easily turn this into a full outing, grab food, walk around, let the kids play, and leave when they’re done. No booking, no time limits, no pressure.

Levity is a really fun mix of everything in one place. It combines a tumble gym for younger kids, a full arcade, plus pizza and ice cream, so it’s easy to turn it into a full outing without needing to go anywhere else.
The tumble gym is designed for kids 10 and under, with open gym sessions where they can jump, roll, and explore in a safe, non-competitive space. At the same time, older kids (and honestly parents too) can head to the arcade, which has a mix of classic and newer games.
They also host birthday parties, and this is one of those places where it’s all taken care of. Kids can play, eat, and move between activities, so you don’t need to plan much beyond showing up

Rainy days in Fargo don’t have to feel limiting, in fact, once you know where to go, they’re actually pretty easy to plan. Whether your kids need to burn energy, try something new, or you just need to get out of the house for a bit, there’s always a solid option nearby.
The key is knowing what kind of day you’re having. If it’s chaos energy, head somewhere like Slick City or an indoor playground. If you want something calmer, museums or the mall are an easy fallback. And if you’re somewhere in between, places like Gathered FM or Rustad give you a bit of both.
Most of these spots are designed with families in mind, which means less planning for you and more time for kids to actually enjoy themselves. And honestly, sometimes just having a go-to list like this makes rainy days feel a whole lot easier.
